Hi, I’m MITCHELL SMITH.

I’m a Bentonville native, a graduate of Bentonville High School and the University of Arkansas, and deeply connected to the area. I know that there’s such great potential in Bentonville and Rogers waiting to be unlocked. Since graduating from the University of Arkansas, I’ve worked in various capacities in education and economic development at the state and federal levels. I understand the economic uncertainties many are facing and have the experience to address them.

For five years, I worked in state education law and have seen firsthand how under-investment in public education that resulted from policies like those of the LEARNS Act voucher system has led to far worse education outcomes for children of all ages. To see how disastrous these policies have been, we need only to look at surrounding states, who have had far better outcomes by pursuing better policies.

Because of the Trump administration, I lost my job and spent months pursuing a new job - just like many other Arkansans. But the people in power have only been responsive to rich donors, not the people struggling in this economy.

Today, I’m proud to work for the company that has given so much to my family and many others–Walmart–where I now work in replenishment. When I’m not at Walmart, I enjoy taking advantage of Arkansas’s natural beauty by biking or hiking, enjoying a beer with friends at one of Northwest Arkansas’s excellent breweries, attending Razorback sports events, and spending time with my parents, brothers, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephew.
